The last day of the cleanse!
I have to say it went by very fast! During the cleanse and over the previous years I discovered the relationship between alcohol, sugar and sleep. Without alcohol and sugar I slept great the whole time. I can say from this cleanse and all the times before that this way of eating becomes the predominant framework for choosing what to eat. I may deviate here and there when it is worth it but this cleanse changes your habits.
There is a concept in the book, French Women Don’t Get Fat, that I would like to share because it really helped me get off sugar. The author says that the first bite of a dessert is delicious. The second bite tastes okay and by the third bite you are eating from memory. After the third bite your taste buds lose sensitivity to sweet and you are not tasting it anymore. If you are really paying attention while chewing it, you will notice that the subsequent bites do not taste as good as the first. Therefore, it is not worth eating more than three bites. Try it and tell me what you think.

I am not bored with the shakes (just posting the boring picture), they still taste delicious to me and I will continue to have them after the cleanse is over. I love it for breakfast!
Lunch:

Za’atar on brown rice flat bread

Dinner:

Quinoa with Vegetables

Oven Roasted Potatoes
(also not a great food on the cleanse especially if you want to lose weight.) I only ate a few but that’s what was for dinner in our house. 🙂

Breakfast:

Shake: Blueberry Raspberry
Lunch:

Brown Rice Pasta with Sauteed Organic Baby Kale
For protein I had sardines. They are really good for you. I hated sardines but still I tried every brand and finally found the one! I didn’t want to take a picture of them because they look like sardines and the brand is what I wanted to show.

Dinner:
I went to another concert and was not too sure what I would find to eat. Before I left I ate some Organic Chicken Sausage.

I was at City Winery and was able to find great food!
The show was Mavis Staples! She was AWESOME!! The whole band was fantastic!
There is another show tomorrow night if you can make it! Go!!!
It was very dark so my friend was holding the candle over the food but you still really can’t see it.

Butternut Squash Soup

Sauteed Escarole

Brussels Sprouts

Breakfast:
I rushed out of the house this morning to drive to my daughter to a college interview in Massachusetts. I forgot to take a picture of my shake. Thought I would share the view of my empty shake. For the record it was a Blueberry Raspberry Shake

Lunch:
Once again I love Google for helping me stay on The Cleanse! We found another vegetarian restaurant!
The restaurant was Paul and Elizabeth’s in Northampton, MA.

Tomato Sweet Potato Soup

Sauteed Greens and Brown Rice
I have to say that it was a great lunch! It looks so bland but it tasted soooo good! Either it was really good or this cleanse has changed my brain! It was really delicious!
Dinner:

Salad
For this dinner I goofed off! You are not supposed to eat tuna especially on The Cleanse! Tomorrow I will find some cilantro to help me get rid of the heavy metal. Now, ” they” say tuna has radiation from Japan as well!
After having no caffeine, no alcohol, no wheat, no dairy, no nuts and no sugar this is my one deviation. Someone made me a lovely dinner and I didn’t want to be unappreciative! I have not eaten tuna in a really long time. I am not going to sweat it but I thought I should fess up!

Breakfast:

Strawberry and Blueberry Shake
Lunch:

I was working and had very little time for lunch. I planned to go next door to Cafe Clementine for a vegetable soup but when I got there they were sold out. Nothing else they had would have fit the cleanse criteria. I had to walk over to deli to get a salad. I never would have done that if I wasn’t cleansing. I would have eaten what they had. Instead the salad I got was organic but it looks better than it was. It had organic greens, beets ( too salty), quinoa (too mushy), avocado, broccoli (too hard and tasteless), mushrooms ( terrible tasting and felt like I was eating an ear), tomato and chicken (bland). I think this was my worst lunch so far and I won’t go back there again.
Dinner:
I went to a concert and got home late so I had leftovers.

Salmon, Butternut Squash and Oven Roasted Eggplant

Breakfast:
I made another raspberry shake. ( I added the photo of the empty glass cause the glass itself has bubbles and it made the picture of the shake look strange to me.) It was delicious even if it doesn’t look it. 😉

Lunch:

This is the Alkalizing Salad from Kaffe on Greenwich Street. Quinoa, Kale, Avocado and Red Pepper. They put so much kale in that salad that I saved some to cook for dinner later.
Dinner:

Organic Chicken Sausage (with Kale) over Brown Rice
and Salad

Side of Butternut Squash

Beets, Broccoli and Chicken Breast over a bed of Arugula
Dinner:

Branzino, Salad (that’s an oven dried tomato) and Butternut Squash
I come from a long line of starchatarians. In the last 5 years since I have been doing these cleanses I have completely changed the way I eat. Less carbs, more vegetables and some protein. Not that I felt bad with out protein these past days but I feel much better (clearer and lighter) with protein than carbs. Every year the cleanse gets easier because it becomes a way of life even when your are not on it.
