With so many working from home, I see more and more people with their head going forward into the computer screen. Forward Head Posture by Jonathan FitzGordon is a collection of blog posts that explains it so well.

These two quotes at first seem to be at odds with each other. On one hand you can create what you think about and on the other hand, the universe may have other plans for you. 2020 has come with such a variety of unexpected challenges, throwing everything out of balance or so it may seem. We must however, change and adapt when we are forced to and see the opportunity for our own inner growth in doing so.

Here are some of the things I have been finding helpful in navigating these difficult times. The path and the journey are all about this moment and then this moment and so on and so on…

Take breaks often
1. Breathe Regularly – take 5 minutes to focus on your breathing. Sit up straight, close your eyes, slowly inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.  Sort of like a cigarette break without the side effects, only the benefits. 
2. Be Present – Slow down – Enjoy the air around you, appreciate the little things and focus on your senses. 
3. Move – All forms of exercise can ease anxiety. Go for a quick walk around the block or skip the elevator and take the stairs.

Cleanse Day 1

 

 

Over the years I had been to many Standard Process seminars (the company that we use for the cleanse).  Most of the people there had done the cleanse many times.  I was intimidated by the idea that it was 21 whole extremely long days! I had to admit though that the people who did it regularly really did look healthier.

I started cleansing 5 years ago before a high school reunion. Three weeks before my high school reunion someone I knew was on his third week of the cleanse.  I realized those three weeks passed and I couldn’t even remember what I ate or had done.   There he was in his third week, had lost 10 pounds and looked sharper and clearer in his eyes.  With three weeks until that reunion I thought why don’t  I  use that time wisely?

I was shocked at how easy it was for me.  The cleanse is designed to supply the nutrients you need plus you are eating meals so you are never hungry.

I have done this cleanse every year since that high school reunion. Most years I have done it in the fall and the spring. Many people have now done it with me multiple times and we have seen fantastic results.

I usually start a cleanse on the 1st of the month so I easily know which day I am on but of course any time is great.  I mention this because the three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas would be another perfect little window. December first is on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.  But of course any time is great.

Parsnip Ginger Soup and Fruit Salad.

It was a large size and very filling.

Plus, my oldest and dear friends were in from out of town for the last 2 days and we had been eating amazing, wonderful food and drinking so I was ready for this cleanse.

Cleanse: Day 21

Today is the last day! I made it! Even though this is my third time doing the cleanse, it still feels so satisfying to make it to the end.

Smoothie: strawberry celery and cucumber (with ginger and banana of course!)

In other news, I got my acceptance letter on the mail today! As of October 2013, I will be a chiropractic student! I’m so excited.

Exercise: arc trainer, 30 minutes; weights, 30 minutes. I think the arc trainer is the hardest low-impact cardio machine I’ve tried so far. Everyone makes it look so easy! That’s going to be me, soon(ish).

Lunch: grilled tilapia and veggies over wild rice salad from Gourmet Garage, mushroom puree and roasted shitake mushrooms from Cafe Clementine

Cleanse: Day 19

Smoothie: celery pear ginger, just because.

Celery Pear Ginger Smoothie
(makes 2 servings)
1 cup coconut water
4 scoops SP Complete (Dairy-Free)
2 scoops Whole Food Fiber
1 ripe banana
1 ripe pear
6 celery stalks, cut into smaller sections
1 inch section of ginger
1 cup water

Combine, blend and enjoy!

Lunch: No time for lunch today 🙁 I drank a lot of water and didn’t really feel too hungry though.

Dinner: I was at Whole Foods picking up more coconut water and figured I might as well pick up dinner too.

Two whole days left! I’m amazed at how quickly that flew by. The way I see it, time is going to pass no matter what, might as well make the most of it.

Cleanse: Day 18

Smoothie: I’ve gotten my morning smoothie session down to 5 minutes from 15. At the same time, I have no idea what I have and have not done at this point but there’s still a few more recipes I’d like to try out.

Lunch: Today was the first time I had meat at Chipotle! Their chicken is antibiotic-free, and pretty tasty.

Dinner: I bought this spaghetti squash with every intention of making something of it. Today was the day! Spaghetti squash, garlic pepper green beans, jerk chicken and curry quinoa.

Smoothie: strawberry papaya smoothie. I would have added ginger today too bit I’ve run out! It was still really tasty. Next time.

Lunch: Thai in Hell’s Kitchen afterwards.
